Created to mark the participant's 33rd anniversary with a company, this work began with her portrait and the story behind a tattoo on her shoulder. The tattoo - including a sunflower, ladybug, botanical forms, and other personally meaningful imagery - became a visual point of departure.

Rather than reproducing the tattoo, I reinterpreted its elements through layered drawing, painting, pattern, and botanical forms. The finished work brings together the visible person, a personally meaningful symbol, and a significant milestone in her life.

This work reflects my story-based portrait process: beginning with a person and their story, identifying meaningful visual elements, and translating them through my own artistic language.

This work began with an old family photograph discovered in the participant's grandfather's garage. The participant wanted to transform the image into a tribute to her mother and acknowledge the role she had played in protecting, supporting, and holding her family together.

I brought the childhood photograph together with a later portrait of the mother so that two moments in her life could coexist in one composition. Botanical forms, yellow roses, intricate lines, and layered patterns connect the family members and shift the archival image into a visual narrative of memory, care, protection, and continuity.

The work reflects a central idea of The Layers We Become: a person's identity cannot be understood through a single moment. Past and present, family roles, relationships, responsibilities, and memories remain active within the person we see today.

This work began with a personal conversation rather than with an image alone. The participant shared a complex family history and spoke about experiences and relationships that had shaped her life.

I did not illustrate those stories literally. Instead, I translated aspects of what she shared into a layered visual language. Floral forms, fractured structures, interconnected lines, circular movement, colour, and texture surround the recognizable portrait and suggest the complexity of experiences that exist beyond the visible surface.

The participant did not direct or see the composition during its development. When she encountered the completed work, the result was a genuine surprise. Story, trust, interpretation, and discovery became part of the artwork itself.

The participant spoke about the loss of her brother, her strong emotional connection with her mother, and her affinity for wildflowers and particular colours. These seemingly separate fragments became the starting points for the composition.

I first developed hand-drawn studies of flowers, birds, botanical forms, and geometric structures. Colour was introduced gradually, while black and grey areas created a counterpoint to the more vibrant forms.

The finished portrait brings photography, drawing, and painting together. Flowers, birds, geometry, colour, and monochromatic forms become interconnected layers rather than literal illustrations. The work reflects how memory, grief, love, relationships, personal preferences, and lived experience can coexist within the identity of one person.

A young woman follows her dreams with a joyful spirit, as though a red carpet has been laid before every step she takes. This portrait celebrates her optimism, the courage to move forward, and the happiness that shines through her expression.

She pursues her future with determination. At times she stumbles, yet rises again; she listens to the trusted people in her life while remaining the author of her own choices. Her ambition is to reach the highest levels of education and build a future grounded in knowledge.

Each member of this family has a distinct life and role, and today distance keeps them apart. At its heart, two parents await the day everyone gathers again: when their father laughs from the depths of his heart and their mother lovingly takes in the faces of her children. The portrait reunites what distance has scattered.

Two birthday portraits celebrate young women whose beauty reflects the kindness of their hearts. Created as gifts from families who love them deeply, the works preserve a simple message: you are cherished, and your presence makes our world brighter.

These earlier works explore how repeated dots, flowing lines, botanical forms, animals, and densely interconnected patterns can create a larger visual structure. At close range, each image is composed of many separate marks, forms, rhythms, and details; from a greater distance, those fragments begin to operate as a unified whole.

This visual language became the conceptual foundation for my current exploration of human identity: the idea that a person, too, is shaped through the accumulation and interaction of many interconnected layers.

Repetition and variation allow individual botanical forms to remain distinct while participating in a dense, coherent field. The tension between detail and totality - between the single element and the larger system - is central to Infinite Coherence.

Here, repeated lines, dots, circular forms, fish, and floral elements create a sense of movement through a shared field. This investigation gradually led me from organic systems toward human identity - from interconnected visual elements to interconnected experiences, memories, relationships, and choices.

My earlier works investigate how many small elements form a coherent visual whole. My recent portrait studies bring that same question into the human sphere.

Photography connects each work to the visible person, while drawing and painting allow me to interpret less visible layers of memory, experience, relationships, and identity. Conversation and trust become part of the making process, and the final portrait becomes an encounter between lived experience and artistic interpretation.

I do not simply portray what a person looks like. I explore the layers that have made them who they are.
